Making sure that the timeline of the Car 1 Symbol is visible (your stage should be green), use any combination of drawing tools to draw a car.
Be sure the car meets the following criteria: It must
1) be longer than it is wide.
2) be drawn as if seen from an aerial view.
3) have four wheels
4) have a front windshield
5) be drawn centered around the registration point (see example at below)
Take your time to draw a good car. With the automated drawing tools in Flash, there is no reason why you can't draw a simple, yet attractive race car. Be creative and have fun with it.
TIP: When drawing your race car, it may be a good idea to place the different part of the cars in their own layers. This will allow you to adjust them independently of each other.

Open your Library by press the F11 key. Click on the car in your library. Notice that a preview of it appears near the top of the library window, shown at the right.
One of the great things about symbols is that once you draw them, you can pull as many copies of them out of the library as you like. It is also possible to duplicate a library symbol and alter the duplicated symbol, thus providing two versions of the same symbol. You will now try this with the car. Right-click on the car in your library (not the preview picture) and choose Duplicate. When the Duplicate Symbol window appears, match your settings to those shown below, then click OK. |

Double-click on the Car2 symbol in the library to open up its timeline. Change the color of your car. Then click on the Scene 1 to go back to the main timeline.
In the library, click back and forth from car one to car2. Notice how your one car has now become two. Repeat the process to make a third library symbol and name it Car3. When finished, your library should look similar to the one at the right. |
